Christmas lawn decoration services

November 17th, 2006 by Arp

This isn’t quite a sign of the apocalypse, but another example of keeping up with the Joneses taken a bit too far. On the way to work the other day I heard a radio ad for a service that will decorate your lawn for Christmas and provide storage for your doodads until the following Christmas. I like Christmastime, even if many peeps just pretend to care about the rest of the world. It’s a great time to teach our kids about giving and helping others. The music is great and it’s nice to see decorations in houses.

Some houses really take it to an extreme, and it’s kinda fun to see a house and be wowed by Santa and hisreindeer on the roof with 14 elves on the lawn and 8 Rudolphs in various poses. This service takes something that is, I imagine, a labor of love and turns it into a commodity. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that everything can be transformed into a commodity these days, but it’s still a little sad.

Of course, if this really catches on, we can always start a website to out the fakers :-P
