Consumer Reports - Carseat update!

January 31st, 2007 by Trish

A few week back, I wrote here about a report by Consumer Reports on infant carseat failures. I, along with many others, was suspicious about the report. Turns out I was right to be suspicious. Consumer Reports has now withdrawn their infant car seat report. Maybe they should stick to washing machines and leave the carseats to the experts.

Have you seen this recent announcement? It’s from a company called First Seat. It looks like they’re developing a new car seat that would be able to withstand side impacts. It might be worth a look: http://www.autospectator.com/m.....oryid=7801

Maybe we should also ask the NHTSA why it hasn’t come up with side impact standards, even though they were mandated to do so by Congress in 2000. (See the link to that article here: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01.....ref=slogin

Yes, I do agree that side impact tests need to be done, but they should be done correctly!
