Finally…Eggs! (our first duck eggs)

Ever since the ducks turned 18 weeks old, I’ve been excitedly looking for eggs every darn day when I go out to let them out of their duck house in the morning. Each day was a disappointment. Finally, on the one day that I was busy making breakfast, Arp headed out to let the ducks out himself. When he came back in a few minutes later calling my name, I was shocked to see him standing outside with two beautiful eggs in his hand. How dare that husband of mine find the first eggs! After all, this is more my project than his. Although I admit he does almost half of the work. Well, maybe 40%. But still, I was soooo looking forward to being the first one to find an egg. Oh well.

The next morning after that, we all headed outside together to see if there were more eggs. Arp brought the camera.

M and I are trotting down in back of the house to the duck pen. I even changed out of my pajamas to pose for the camera. But as I looked at the pictures later, I noticed something – my ass looked incredibly flat. Now, I’ve always prided myself on having a well-rounded butt. So I doctored the photo a bit. So there.

Next, M and J fill the ducks’ bowl. J actually prefers to just dig her hands into the duck food and play. I’m hoping I don’t find her one day eating it like the cat food.

M puts the bowl in the pen and then proceeds to attempt to unlock the duck house.

I always have to help him, though. I’m hoping that means that the bears, too, might have a little trouble with the locks.

You know what we found inside the duck house on that day – the day of the photo op? Nothing. Nothing but ducks, that is. Darn those ducks! When would they let their Mama personally find an egg?!

Here is our dearest Macaroni, and I swear she was laughing at me.

I’ve been bugging John again to get chickens! I think building a coop would be a fun spring activity and I wish Ethan and Ben would pester him with me.

Macaroni definitely looks like she’s mocking you. :)
What a great experience for your little ones.

Question: You have any good quotes about mom?
