Our trip to the Arenal Hanging Bridges was one of the highlights of our trip. It was a great hike through through some utterly gorgeous rainforest. It was definitely worth the $40 ($20 for us adults, kids free), and we look forward to doing it again.

It’s kinda cool that we didn’t update the blog regularly while we were there. Adding these updates now brings back the memories and keeps the dream right in front of us. I can’t think of a day since we got back that I haven’t thought of Costa Rica at least once.

J decided quickly to take a ride, while M seemed utterly unfazed by the heights.

Some of the bridges were loooong.

You never know what you’ll find in the rainforest. This appears to be a new breed of monkey.

All the walkways had the concrete lattice action. While pretty much everything else was covered with flora.

We walked over a lot of streams.

The jungle is DENSE. I took a hike along the coast in Cahuita and you can be 15 feet from the water and BARELY hear it. As beautiful as it is, I would not want to get lost in the rainforest.

M was fearless. He also handled the 1.3km hike really, really well.

There was plenty of moss, including this really cool stuff (a fine pic by Trish).

The bridges were sturdy, but we weren’t keen on seeing whether jumping up & down was a good idea or not.

J finally got down – and that’s as far as she got before needing to be picked up.

There were always trees taller than the bridges – and at the peak we were VERY high up. The size of the trees is amazing.

The treetops we can see here are from trees as tall as the average oak tree. Some of the bridges were 3 times higher than that.

The camera lens got fuzzy towards the end.

Finally – the tops of the tallest trees. That foggy stuff is a low cloud.

A little picnic/boobyjuice stand near the middle of the hike. After that, the camera was too foggy for more pictures, but it looks the same. It’s a great hike though – we’re glad we made it ahead of a large group of loud teen tourists and got nothing but the sounds of nature.
