Welcome to Costa Rica! (Sorry I'm a bit late.) I'm sure you're enjoying yourself in sunny, warm Atenas. And I think I know your Mary -- three boys? Anyway, enjoy your adjustment and keep on writing it all down; it is so much fun to go back and read those entries years later!

Glad you all made it safe and sound, if worse for the wear! I was always stressed to the max toting our two little ones to Costa Rica for vacations but can't imagine the stress of moving there on top of the already-challenging task of traveling with kids. I hate scorpions and bugs. I don't know that I'll ever get used to that element of CR. You see bugs that you've never seen in your life. I remember asking "does a bug really need THAT many antennas AND claws AND teeth AND a stinger?" Lol. Thankfully they do try to keep out of your way, except their is one that likes to hang out on pillows in your bed. No joke. That said, it's all part of the beautiful bio-diversity that makes the country so unique. Enjoy your settling-in period. I envy you the sunshine and warm breezes right about now. We are looking to Christmas as our first chance to get down there. No matter what, you'll never make a mistake in moving to CR, you'll only gain a life-changing experience that you will never forget! My experience has stuck with me in my heart and soul and I hope someday I will be able to have another spirtual awakening like the one I had during the two years I lived there. We still have land there so it's a real possibility we will find ourselves back again someday.

Whoops, forgot to tell you. Pregnant women and women with small children in tow go to the front of the line everywhere in CR. Senior citizens do too. Enjoy that perk while you can! Sheilah

Loved reading about your adventure moving to CR. We retired and moved here in 2003. Live in San Rafael de Heredia. Our son and his family, which includes our 3 grandkids, live next door so life is good here in Pura Vida Landia. I wish you luck and if I can help you in any way, please contact me at crsheilah@gmail.com

I'm exhausted just reading all of that. I hope things sooth down soon. I couldn't even imagine how much stress it's got to be moving that far that late in pregnancy. I can barely move across the house. LOL
