We had this same issue with my oldest son. I know what it is like to be a little embarrassed when they won't answer, I used to think, "Great, I'm homeschooling, here it comes" and would often get asked if I thought he would be better off in school. Thankfully my husband would always say no, but sometimes I had doubts.

Now he is almost 6 (as of Friday) and he talks up a storm. He is still quiet but boy, can he talk a LOT. I told him yesterday that he didn't used to talk so much, and says "really? I don't remember that!" But just like you I am so glad he is comfortable enough to be coming out of his shell. Btw, Love your blog, still!

Wonderful post! He is one lucky kid to be able to just be himself, and come to things on his own time. If you forced said socialization, it would no doubt backfire. This way, he is finding his own voice. Wonderful to read about such supportive parents!

Thanks :-) It did take some time for me to let go of conventional, common thinking (ie unschool myself). Witnessing the growth really makes trusting our kids a lot easier.

Love reading about parents supporting who their children are and enjoying their growth rather than feeling a sense of relief that they "are finally outgrowing that stage". Such a beautiful example of love.
