I’ve been a little homesick lately. Actually, I’ve gone through on-and-off periods of homesickness ever since we arrived in Costa Rica in February. Some days it’s hard. Other days it’s not so hard. What I’m trying to do is put my homesickness in perspective.

I realized the other day that we’ve been in Costa Rica for almost 2.5 months now, and I really haven’t blogged all that much about our experiences so far. I do think that I’m still adjusting to our move, and all is not totally roses for me. But much of that I can attribute to the fact that I’ve had a miserable last month or two of pregnancy. That’s me. I suppose that’s to be expected for the third trimester.
I feel like I need a nap pretty much every day. Small outings exhaust me. I think my iron’s OK, but I should probably open the Floradix that I lugged here on the plane.

Yesterday we took a daytrip to the Pacific coast, to Punta Leona (a resort that offered an easy day with access to pools, showers & a restaurant as well as the beach). We were awed by the wildlife, all within 3 feet of water:
a big, 1 1/2 ft yellow (?) snapper
a beautiful, 2 foot wide spotted ray
a school of puffer fish
some gorgeous blue & brown spotted fishes
a giant (1 1/2 ft) blue speckled fish caught by a spearfisherman
brown pelicans

The carcass of a dead, recently squished scorpion, behind a table in the living room. Who killed it? It was clearly a recent kill, as the juices were fresh (ewwwwwww). Maybe a cat? Loki had a watery nose and eyes yesterday – could she have been the one to smush it? Would being stung by a scorpion cause a cat to have watery eyes and nose? This is my first real, almost-alive scorpion sighting. Pretty gross. I’d hope it would be my …
