My pages on raising our ducks have been very popular lately. I’m guessing it’s because there doesn’t seem to be that many blogs out there that deal with it, and maybe also that it is Spring and prime duckling season. Last night was the first night that the ducks spent outside in their duck house. For the last week we have been carrying them outside first thing in the morning and putting them in a wire pen in the yard. The duck house hadn’t been finished yet, so we had to keep bringing them inside at night to their baby-pool brooder. Why aren’t people gushing over my ducks? I’m know I’m a little obsessed right now, but I’m frankly disappointed that people aren’t showing much interest. Yes, people do come over to see my ducks, but their comments are pretty limited. Don’t they know that the ducks are my new children?
Here’s a sample of some of the pitiful comments that I get from people:
“Nice birds.”
“You have ducks?”
“What do they eat?”
“I believe a dingo ate your baby”

At three weeks old, the ducklings don’t look much like ducklings anymore. From all the reading I did beforehand, I did expect them to grow fast. In fact, I warned all my friends who have kids to be sure they visited during the first week so that the kids would be capable of holding them. But still, I am surprised at how fast they grow.
