Yesterday we took a daytrip to the Pacific coast, to Punta Leona (a resort that offered an easy day with access to pools, showers & a restaurant as well as the beach). We were awed by the wildlife, all within 3 feet of water:

a big, 1 1/2 ft yellow (?) snapper
a beautiful, 2 foot wide spotted ray
a school of puffer fish
some gorgeous blue & brown spotted fishes
a giant (1 1/2 ft) blue speckled fish caught by a spearfisherman
brown pelicans

Today we took a hike up our mountain to eat some wild blueberries we found last week and ran into an awesome surprise – a timber rattler! We’ve known about them ever since we moved here but never saw one until now. Trish caught some movement out of the corner of her eye, right along a log. She thought it was a chipmunk and had trouble seeing it until it moved again 5 seconds later.
